One World, One Heart 2011 – Congratulations to the Winners

Update:  Thanks to everyone who came by to visit and to Lisa for this event.  Tons of fun as always.  The two lucky winners of my give away are:

Kelli from Book of Kells who won the heart pendant, and

Heidi aka Digital Misfit who won the Art Treasure Box.

One World One Heart

Hello to all of you who are first time visitors and have found me through One World, One Heart.  A brief intro:  (More detailed info about me can be found here) I live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia on the west coast of Canada.  My family and I just recently moved here to bring our lives back in to balance, allowing me to pursue the arts full time.  I am just in the process of setting up my studio again in our new place, and have also recently created this new website/blog as my studio’s “cyber-home.”  I have been making stuff since I was a small girl.  I remember getting into a bit of trouble at school when I brought beaded keychains and pet rocks I had made to sell to my friends on the school playground!  Forty years later, I am still making things and sharing them with friends and others who fall in love with the things I have created.  (For those who keep asking me….yes, I will have an Etsy store set up soon, I promise.)   I am also very passionate about the process of creative activity as I know it has created such renewal for me personally.  In fact I credit weekly time in my studio as a critical part of my recovery from post-partum depression after the birth of my first son.  So, in many ways art has saved my life….and certainly at minimum, my sanity!  I am a mother to two wonderful boys who are now 14 and 11, and a partner to a very supportive husband, who is also creative in his spare time.  His outlet is music and video.

For this last year of One World One Heart, I wanted to do something special for everyone who visits here.  I thought long and hard about how I could give something to everyone, and not just those who would win my give-aways.  So, here’s what I came up with:  As you can see by the banner on the right column of my site, I am also participating in The Sketchbook Challenge.  January’s challenge is “Highly Prized.”  I decided to use this prompt to create a project that I could document in a Step-by-Step tutorial.  This is my “Virtual Give-Away”, one I hope is a treat for everyone.  You can find the first of three parts of that project here.

Give-Away #1

The outcome of the aforementioned project, the “Highly Prized” Art Journal Treasure Box, is an actual item I will ship to the winner of this give-away.  The fun and mystery of this one is that you can watch the unfolding of it’s creation here in the posts that will occur over the next few days.  (If you are worried you might forget which blog you’ve found this on, since you will probably be visiting so many wonderful blogs in the next few days, you can sign up to follow me via email on the right if that is easier for you.)

Update:  Project is complete.  Find it here: Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3

Give Away #2

One of the crafts I inherited in my family’s history is blacksmithing.  My Grandfather pointed out to me that I am a fourth-generation blacksmith.  His comments are generous.  My time on the anvil and forge making large scale items is limited.  But, what I have done is take the tradition and style of blacksmithing steel and miniaturized it – bringing it into my jewelry-work.  I just love finding ways to marry different disciplines.  In this series I worked glass together with steel links and components and then combined it with delicate ribbons to create what I call, “Medieval Heart Pendants”  This one below will be shipped to the winner of this second give away.

So, how do you participate?  Here are the rules as outlined by Lisa Swifka, the creator of this event:

A. The “contest” is open to all active bloggers worldwide.  This is, after all, about meeting and connecting those who are actively blogging.

B. To enter, please leave a comment on this post, making sure there is a way for me to contact you if you are a winner of one of the prizes and also so I can visit your blog too.

C. The two winners will be announced Feb. 17th and I will email the winners as well as post it back on this very post as an update.

That’s all there is to it.  Thanks for stopping by.  I look forward to meeting you.

Cheryl.
